Alpaqua Engineering, LLC offers a line of accessories designed to enable new functionality or improve existing capabilities specifically for the Beckman Coulter BiomekŪ line of instruments.
ALP Rotator
The Alpaqua ALPRotator is a static device used on Span-8 instruments to present microplates or reagent troughs in portrait orientation. This allows an increase in throughput in situations when multiple wells in the same row of a microplate need to be accessed simultaneously. Typical applications are PCR Setup, CombiChem applications, or general compound reformatting. The ALPRotator is also useful in combination with certain compartmentalized reagent troughs, like those that are available with six columns but not with six rows.

Alpillo
The Alpillo Plate Cushion is a clever device designed to compensate for physical tolerances between labware and pipettor that can make automated precision pipetting difficult. Labware variations, calibration errors, mechanical wear, or heat-related shrinkage and warping are but a few of the problems that often lead to inaccurate positioning between pipet heads and tips. The Alpillo device helps you avoid these problems. The Alpillo Plate Cushion improves pipetting results whenever the tips need to come close to the well bottoms. Microplates supported by the Alpillo Plate Cushion give way, thus limiting the force exerted by the tips as they push down.
The Alpillo Plate Cushion is indispensable in all applications where fluid needs to be completely removed from a well, like in wash or super-natant removal steps. In these situations the tips must eventually reach the bottom, which is hard to do reproducibly in stiff, immovable systems without risking to push too hard. Here the Alpillo really shines by providing the much needed elasticity that allows for a wide range of possible height variations.
Centrifuge Tube Holder
Tube rack for BiomekŪ FX or NX instruments with Span-8 pods.
- Holds up to (4) 50 ml tubes and (6) 15 ml tubes with caps
- For large tubes up to 30 mm diameter
- For small tubes up to 17.5 mm diameter
- Supports freestanding and conical-bottom 50 ml tubes
- Serves as benchtop tube rack
- Can be inserted into any standard Biomek ALP with 113.1 mm * 75.4 mm opening (not included)

Plate Spacer
Plate Spacers are used in conjunction with the FiveByThree ALP to facilitate access to shallow labware that is located next to taller labware. The product description for the FiveByThree ALP looks at various scenarios in which plate spacers are used.
The Spacer 20 has a stacking height of 20 mm and is used with P200 tips. It is only needed to access shallow plates located next to tip boxes or stacked plates. The Spacer 30 has a stacking height of 35 mm, this spacer is used with shorter tips, like P20s or P30s.
FiveByThree
- Extends usable deck space

- All positions fully accessible by the BiomekŪ gripper

The FiveByThree ALP replaces the standard FourByThree (4x3) ALP and takes up the same positions on the front or rear center of the deck. By packing plates more closely in the X (left-to-right) direction, it provides an additional three plate positions on virtually the same footprint. The FiveByThree can be used on instruments with one single pod or dual-pod (multi-channel) configurations as well as Hybrid FX/FXP (multi-channel & Span-8 combined).
