MANAGER - Training and Product Development

ABOUT THE JOB

Biodirect Inc., located in Taunton, MA, a fast growing, fast paced provider of strategic technology solutions is seeking an experienced person for training and product development, both field and in-house. Biodirect is a provider of new and certified pre-owned products and services.

FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Service Director, the qualified person will develop and implement technical training programs for customers and in-house engineers on Liquid Handling Robotics. Training syllabus will include hardware, software, method development and basic maintenance procedures. Product Development activities will include establishing new programs for refurbishment of existing products, specification development, potential design improvements and verification test plans and fixtures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Training:

  • Establish basic and advanced course curriculum for multiple liquid handling platforms (Tecan EVO, Beckman FX/NX, Agilent Bravo and PerkinElmer Janus). This includes description and theory of hardware used, Use of OEM software, Script development and creation of basic applications.
  • Create and maintain a Training Center of Excellence. This includes lab equipment, deck ware, lab ware, reagents, audio/video, PC’s etc.
  • Provide and maintain Training Certifications and records.
  • As required, provide training program at customer’s location.

Product Development:

  • Create new products and services for refurbished equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, Multichannel heads, Grippers, Dispense cassettes, Arms etc. Develop, specify and procure parts required, as well as, test fixtures and verification plans to provide QA/QC documentation.
  • Design and fabricate replacement parts. Create specifications and selecting vendors for replacement Motors/encoders, cables, belts, carriers, wash stations etc. Maintain drawing revisions and history.
  • Design and fabricate Tooling for cost effective alignment and teaching. This may include hardware or software programing, scripts etc.
  • Research product designs and capabilities. Provide creative solutions for potential upgrades.
  • Apply and develop time saving, cost effective service and quality assurance procedures.
  • Attend technical training courses and trade shows if required.
  • Must be available for travel domestically up to 30% of the time.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree/professional training in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Chemistry/Biology or Equivalent Professional Experience in related fields.
  • Experience in repairing & maintaining lab equipment & systems.
  • A minimum 5+ years of industry related service or customer support experience.
  • Previous manufacturer related service experience (e.g.: Agilent, Beckman, Tecan, BioTek, Caliper, Kendro, Molecular Devices, Perkin Elmer, Thermo, Velocity 11, Zymark, etc.).

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Experience in laboratory/research instrumentation use & applications.
  • Knowledge in systems integration and knowledge of programming languages.
  • Experience in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with online training applications a plus. (such as www.openlearning.com)
  • SolidWorks or other 3D CAD Program
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills are needed and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • GLP Laboratory Experience
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • A willingness to be flexible and learn various product & system types is a must.
  • Military background is a plus.

SENIOR SERVICE ENGINEER - Scientific Lab Equipment

ABOUT THE JOB

Biodirect Inc., located in Taunton, MA, a fast growing, fast paced provider of strategic technology solutions is seeking an experienced service engineer for both field and in-house service and repair of laboratory instrumentation.  Biodirect is a provider of new and certified pre-owned products and LabSquad provides on-site corrective and preventative maintenance services.

FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Service Manager, the qualified person will provide high level technical evaluation and repairs on a variety of plate based, laboratory automation equipment. Common tools include; hand tools, meters, laboratory balance, jigs and fixtures, and test equipment. Services are provided in-house and on-site to customers throughout the United States and Canada. Past experience troubleshooting, repairing and servicing liquid handlers, readers, washers, and plate sealers is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide in-house and on-site field service, repair, calibration, upgrades, verification, reconditioning, overhaul, & integration of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and manage service reports, records and documentation.
  • Provide prompt and professional telephone technical support and customer service.
  • Provide product and technical training to other service engineers.
  • Provide on-site and in-house product demonstrations when required.
  • Maintain and manage service related tools and equipment.
  • Research product designs and capabilities.
  • Apply and develop time saving, cost effective service and quality assurance procedures.
  • Attend technical training courses and trade shows if required.
  • Must be available for travel domestically up to 30% of the time.

  • Degree/professional training in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Chemistry/Biology experience, or other related fields.
  • Experience in repairing & maintaining lab equipment and systems.
  • A minimum 5-10 years of industry related service or support experience.
  • Previous manufacturer related service experience (e.g.: Agilent, Beckman, Tecan, BioTek, Caliper, Kendro, Molecular Devices, Perkin Elmer, Thermo, Velocity 11, Zymark, etc.).

  • Previous field based service work with laboratory automation manufacturer.
  • Experience in laboratory/research instrumentation uses and applications.

You will be responsible for selling laboratory equipment and consumables for use in molecular biology, tissue culture, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and analytical chemistry laboratories. You will also be responsible for:

  • Manage and develop incremental sales through existing and new customers.
  • Promoting excellent relations with customers and key decision-makers.
  • Negotiating sales and general pricing within prospect companies.
  • Developing and implementing pricing strategies.
